We Need Better, You Deserve Better: HD-28
For Immediate Release
From the Campaign of Robert Boettcher for HD-28:
Sugar Land, TX – It is my great honor to announce my candidacy for Texas House District 28.
Over the past weeks, I have been approached by various local elected officials and District residents regarding their concerns about our current State Representative’s leadership, effectiveness, and acumen as a legislator. They universally pointed first to his abandoning the District during the Great Freeze last February, his lack of personal accomplishment in the legislature, and an apparent inability to build relationships within the legislature to further solutions to District issues.
Politics aside, this election is a referendum on District leadership and undivided loyalty to our community. A pattern of divided attention, self-serving interests, and absence has emerged. My intention is to provide the missing elements of leadership, duty, and responsibility to the community back to HD-28.
Public office is public service, and it demands sacrifice in personal matters. When the Great Freeze hit, Rob assisted his neighbors shut off and repair water leaks, offered his home and backup generator to those in need, and witnessed firsthand the shortcoming of existing policy and leadership. Rather than stay and help alongside his neighbors, our Rep. Gates abandoned his public duty and fled to Florida. 1 This typifies failure in crisis.
By his own account, Texas Rep. Gates spends HALF his time residing in Gunnison County, Colorado, engaged in politics as a Crested Butte homeowner, Gunnison County property developer, and self-described Founder and President of the Colorado Citizens Coalition.2,3,4 Can a part-time resident adequately understand Fort Bend issues? Where do his loyalties lie? Whose interests does he represent?
Living half time elsewhere means Mr. Gates is not available, nor in touch with local issues. He has no office nor staff in the district.
As a first term lawmaker, Gates introduced HB 1877 to exempt landlords from having to conform with current building codes. His company reportedly owns 8,400 apartment units and received countless citations for building code violations. 5
His HB 1098 would endanger children by prohibiting Protective Services from accepting anonymous reports of abuse or neglect. 6,7 By Gates’ reckoning, LEGITIMATE abuse cases would be sacrificed annually to gain bureaucratic efficiency. This would make the children most at-risk less safe.
We NEED better. You DESERVE better. My promise to the residents of District 28 is that I will be here through thick and thin for you. I am a full-time Fort Bend County Resident, and I am committed to actively working with local elected officials and constituents to best understand and tackle our local issues. I plan to bring effective organization and communication back to the district office. You deserve nothing but the best representing you and our community… I will always be available for your service, and I will be inclusive in promoting families, education, business, and a brighter future for all.
I am Robert Boettcher, and I am asking for your vote in the March Republican Primary to bring leadership, service, and community representation to our new District 28.
